Requirements

  • 2 year / Associate Degree in Nursing, required
  • Vocational / Technical Diploma Professional Nursing Program, required
  • Minimum 5 years Registered Nurse experience, required
  • Minimum 3 years Registered Nurse experience, must be within relevant practice area, for RN with vocational/technical diploma or associate degree, required
  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience must be within relevant practice area, for RN with BSN or Masters, required
  • Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse, required
  • BLS certification will be required within 6 months

Nice To Haves

  • 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred
  • Masters Degree in Nursing, preferred
  • All RN’s hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor’s prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN’s licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement.
  • Other certifications may be needed based on department requirements

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process.
  • Assesses, plans, delivers, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care related to patient needs.
  • Contributes to the support of patients through interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Assures that the care provided is consistent with applicable standards, regulations, statutes and state and federal law, and provides leadership to department staff, serving as a resource and mentor.
  • Contributes to the body of professional nursing practice through participation in research, committee work, and professional organizations, internal and external.
  • Provides nursing care and services to patients throughout the life span and in various settings consistent with educational preparation.
  • Collects and records relevant patient health data accurately and works collaboratively with the care team to provide the patient care.
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems and utilizes data to continuously meet care coordination needs.
  • Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
  • Identifies patients' response to patient care and works with other the other patient care team to make any necessary adjustments.
  • Implements and records interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problem.
  • Evaluates the patient’s progress toward attainment of identified goals and initiates or participates in patient outcome improvement activities.
  • Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards.
  • Directs and supervises patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel 100% of the time according to department guidelines.
  • Performs and documents Point of Care (POC) testing and quality control in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and documents testing reagents/supplies and equipment according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Acts effectively as a group leader or preceptor when assigned.
  • Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient’s autonomy, dignity and rights.
  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity.
  • Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice.
  • Provides proof of current BLS validation to supervisor.
  • Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy by providing documented evidence of completion to supervisor.
  • Provides to supervisor evidence of completion of all required training and competency validation.
  • Performs Similar or related duties as requested or directed.
  • Triennial completion of professional nursing pathway for current practice level and provides evidence of completion to supervisor.
  • Provides an annual in-service for co-workers and provides documented evidence of activity to supervisor.
  • Demonstrates clinical problem-solving ability through written exemplar, patient/family feedback, co-worker report or direct managerial observation.
  • Develops and evaluates systems for orienting new staff and students as demonstrated by direct supervisory observation.
  • Contributes to the body of nursing knowledge through use of research and participation in professional practice committees and organizations as measured by portfolio review and supervisory observation.
