About The Position

At the Gadsden Correctional Facility in Quincy, Florida, our foundation is based upon the philosophies of caring about others, giving back, and making a social impact. We provide a safe and secure working environment for our staff while helping an at-risk population receive the treatment necessary for success on their road back to a healthy, productive life. This position reports to the nursing supervisor and provides care required by inmates identified with one or more infectious disease processes utilizing established policies, procedures, and treatment regimens under the direction of a licensed physician or mid-level provider in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, MTC Medical, and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives. Gadsden Correctional Facility is a gender responsive, trauma informed female facility. Your responsibilities will include the application of gender responsive and trauma informed care and practices while working with female offenders.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school
  • Valid registered nurse license in the state of Florida or compact state
  • CID/HIV certifications per state administrative standards
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management
  • Must attain and maintain appropriate facility security clearance.
  • Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years quality assurance experience
  • Six months correctional nursing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide the appropriate level of wholly compensatory, partially compensatory, or supportive care required to meet the identified biological, symbolic, and social needs used in the nursing process.
  • Provide an environment conducive to safety for inmates and employees. Assess risks to the inmate’s safety and implement the appropriate precautions.
  • Maintain current master list of inmates and employees with on-going CID needs or documented completion of CID services.
  • Plan, coordinates and implements all public Health Programs required by state codes.
  • Manages TB program including screenings, care management, and reporting.
  • Ensure that inmates are scheduled to appropriate clinician (physician), monitors medication compliance.
  • Perform contact investigation and referral when appropriate. Maintain telephone log.
  • Manages HIV program including screenings, care management, and reporting.
  • Coordinate and conduct CID meetings ensuring that information is shared with the health services administrator and members of the health services staff.
  • Ensure that medications are given, recorded and appropriate laboratory tests are obtained for inmates with sexually transmitted diseases as ordered by physician or mid-level provider. Submit reports as required by local Public Health Department.
  • Coordinate and ensure that immunizations are administered and recorded.
  • Assist physicians as required.
  • Serve as unit resource and provide education as required to inmates and staff. Will provide information on infectious diseases as needed. Provide Blood borne/Airborne Disease training to staff during New Employee Orientation and Annual Refresher Training (ART).
  • Assist with quality assurance initiatives as directed.
  • Coordinate and ensure that annual inmate physical examinations are performed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
