About The Position

Join our high-performing Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team and provide advanced, compassionate care to critically ill patients when they need it most. At Deaconess Illinois Medical Center, you'll work alongside experienced critical care professionals in a collaborative environment focused on delivering exceptional patient outcomes. We offer 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratios that support safe, quality patient care. You will care for a diverse patient population, including medical, surgical, and cardiac patients. You will work with a collaborative interdisciplinary team including physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and critical care specialists. We provide structured orientation and mentorship programs designed to support your success and opportunities to pursue specialty certifications such as CCRN, TNCC, and other advanced credentials. We also offer career advancement pathways into leadership, education, and specialty nursing roles, as well as flexible scheduling options to support work-life balance.

Requirements

  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or Red Cross BLS certification
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or Red Cross ALS certification
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all members of the healthcare team
  • Physical stamina and emotional resilience to thrive in a fast-paced critical care environment

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • One year of ICU or acute care nursing experience

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
  • Monitor and manage critically ill patients using advanced monitoring equipment and technology
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies according to physician orders and critical care protocols
  • Recognize and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and coordinate patient care plans
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, procedures, and recovery expectations
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards
  • Advocate for patients and support families during challenging healthcare experiences
