Quality Patient Care Through Utilization of Advanced Knowledge and Skills. This role involves coordinating unit activities, assisting with the orientation of new employees, and maintaining ongoing assessments of new staff. The nurse will be responsible for in-servicing new employees on equipment, maintaining good public relations with patients, families, and physicians, and participating in the development of policies and procedures. The position requires strong technical skills, including the ability to utilize sound clinical judgment and effectively manage crisis situations. Specific technical competencies include the correct use of equipment such as monitors, pulse oximeters, crash carts, defibrillators, and pacers. The nurse must also demonstrate the ability to set up pressure lines (Swan, Arterial line, cardiac-output), perform hemodynamic monitoring, manage ventilator patients, adequately care for all age groups, pull arterial sheaths, and manage balloon pumps. Continuing education is emphasized, with participation in QI activities, data collection, and departmental in-services. The role requires being proactive and self-directed in seeking new learning opportunities.
