The Saint Joseph Mercy Health System 6 North Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is a 20-bed unit that provides services to older adolescent, adult, and older adult cardiac patients, acute and chronic Heart Failure patients, as well as medical/surgical patients who require cardiac monitoring. Services are provided to critically ill adult patients who require frequent and close assessment, skillful and timely clinical interventions, and sophisticated technical support to achieve aggressive treatment goals. The Registered Nurse provides quality patient-centered care, considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs through competent clinical practice and application of the nursing process. The role consistently integrates concepts of relationship-based care into practice, serves as a clinical and educational resource to others on the unit, assumes accountability for the nursing care of designated patients, and demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies.
