Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes. This role is for nurses interested in either the ART Acute/Surgical Acute Care Units. ART 6 East is a surgical acute care unit located in the Ashley River Tower (ART) at the Medical University of South Carolina. ART 6 East cares for patients recovering from Whipple’s, TIPS, splenectomies, cholecystectomies, Nissen Fundoplications, colectomies, cardiology, and general medicine patients. Ashley River Tower (ART) 6 West is a 21-bed acute care unit providing comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of medical and surgical diagnoses. The unit routinely cares for patients admitted under general medicine, cardiology, as well as specialty services including GI surgery and surgical oncology. Additionally, 6W supports other services that are appropriate based on patient needs such as cardiothoracic surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, and hematology/oncology. Nurses on ART 6W are trained in the use of a variety of clinical devices, tools, and techniques to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care. Typical nurse to patient ratios ranges from 1:4 to 1:5.
