Registered Nurse - ER
About The Position
The Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (RN ER) initiates and manages the nursing process for admitted patients. This role involves delivering nursing care, including patient education, prioritizing care based on patient needs and clinical settings, and executing medical orders from physicians. The RN ER will administer medications, oxygen, and treatments, and operate therapeutic devices. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs and health indicators, providing direct patient care, documenting patient information, and recognizing and responding to life-threatening emergencies. The role also involves identifying and intervening in adverse reactions to medications and treatments, performing quality control checks on medical equipment, assisting with specimen collection, and serving as a member of the healthcare team during after-hours and emergency situations. The RN ER provides comprehensive nursing care specific to the age and condition of patients, ranging from neonates to geriatric patients.
Requirements
- Must have a minimum of an Associate of Science in Nursing degree.
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years of ER experience.
- Must have an ACLS.
- BLS and PALS through either the American Heart Association or the client is required.
- Shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted physician license in the state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract.
Nice To Haves
- NRP/TNCC/CEN certification is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Initiates and manages the nursing process for admitted patients.
- Delivers nursing care, including patient education, based on the nursing process.
- Prioritizes nursing care according to patient needs and clinical settings.
- Executes and monitors medical orders from physicians, including administering medications, oxygen, and treatments.
- Operates and manages therapeutic devices such as drainage, feeding, and suction tubes, as well as respiratory and electrocardiograph machines.
- Measures and assesses vital signs, neurological status, and other health indicators.
- Provides direct patient care, including assistance with daily living activities and ambulation.
- Documents patient care, changes in condition, and other unit activities.
- Recognizes life-threatening emergencies and initiates resuscitation measures and other emergency procedures.
- Identifies adverse reactions to medications and treatments, and initiates appropriate interventions.
- Performs quality control checks for crash carts, lab equipment, and other medical devices.
- Assists in the collection of specimens, including blood, urine, and stool samples.
- Serves as a member of the healthcare team for after-hours and emergency situations.
- Provides comprehensive nursing care specific to the age and condition of patients, ranging from neonates to geriatric patients.
