About The Position

The Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse (RN) provides rapid assessment, treatment, and patient care in a fast-paced setting. The ER RN is responsible for stabilizing patients, responding to medical emergencies, and collaborating with providers and healthcare teams to deliver high-quality emergency care. Scheduled workday and times may vary depending on the needs of the department and will include weekends and holidays.

Requirements

Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
Ability to pass specific competencies for this position.
Current and active Illinois RN license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Pediatric Life Support (PALS) required or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) required or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Strong decision making, critical thinking, and multi-tasking skills.
Knowledge of nursing principles, patient care standards, and healthcare regulations.
Ability to stay calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
Completes and maintains all required education and/or training requirements.
Complies with HIPAA regulations and always maintains patient confidentiality.
Follows and maintains all lawful safety, health requirements, and regulations, and follow protocols for required protective equipment (PPE).
Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury, or illness, near misses, etc. in SafetyZone.
Follows Hillsboro Health Standards of Behavior.
Receives training and/or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct.
Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows whether to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.

Responsibilities

Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
Delivers nursing care according to the standards of care defined within the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
Provides rapid patient assessments and prioritizes care using triage protocols.
Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatment.
Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and treatments according to provider orders and hospital policies and procedures.
Assist providers during emergency procedures, trauma care, and life-saving interventions.
Operate and monitor emergency medical equipment, including cardiac monitors, and respiratory equipment.
Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the patient’s health record.
Communicate changes in patient condition in a timely manner to providers and other members of the healthcare team.
Responds quickly and effectively to medical emergencies, cardiac arrests, and trauma situations.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, EMS personnel, and support staff to coordinate care.
Effectively communicates with co-workers on a timely basis including end of shift updates.
Uses critical thinking to make clinical decisions and set priorities related to workload management based on clinical knowledge and individual patient needs.
Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, surgeries, transfers, and admissions.
Ensure compliance with infection control, patient safety, HIPAA, and regulatory standards.
Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly work area and upkeep of the department to meet all regulatory requirements.
Is knowledgeable of general hospital and unit specific policies and procedures.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
Assist with diagnostic tests, procedures, and emergency interventions as needed.
Participate in department meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education programs.
Provide emotional support and compassionate care to patients and families during stressful situations.
