About The Position

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is hiring for a Full Time Registered Nurse, Emergency Department (New Grads Welcome)! This is a Direct Care Registered Nurse position in the Emergency Department with a 6-month fellowship program designed for new graduates. The fellowship includes classroom sessions, simulation labs, hands-on experience with a preceptor, and exposure to evidence-based practice principles using Emergency Nursing Association (ENA) modules. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. Professional performance standards encompass ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. The Emergency Department is a 37-bed facility seeing a wide range of acute and emergent diagnoses, including trauma, stroke, and various other conditions across all age groups. It is a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License - Compact/Multi-State License OR Registered Nurse (RN) License - Single State – Virginia
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Must be scheduled to graduate and obtain RN licensure prior to the August 9 start date
  • For Emergency Care: ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire
  • For all Direct Care RN's: BLS within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Prior Emergency Department or EMT experience preferred, including: ED Technicians currently working in the ER, EMTs actively working as first-line responders, Nursing students who completed their preceptorship in the Emergency Department, LPNs who are currently working in a hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process.
  • Adhere to standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation.
  • Uphold standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards required by specific clinical areas.
  • Participate in a 6-month fellowship program including classroom sessions, simulation labs, and hands-on experience with a nurse preceptor.
  • Gain exposure to evidence-based practice principles.
  • Care for patients with a wide range of acute and emergent diagnoses, including trauma, stroke, respiratory, cardiac, septic, and behavioral health conditions.
  • Provide care to pediatric, geriatric, and all age groups in between.
