About The Position

Sentara Independence - Emergency Department is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for their Emergency Department. This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week, specifically on weekend nights from 1 PM to 1 AM. The Emergency Room at Sentara Independence offers 24/7 access to board-certified emergency physicians and quality nurses, with a focus on outstanding service and quick, expert patient treatment. The facility features a new family-friendly waiting room, private patient care rooms with state-of-the-art cardiac monitoring, a minor care treatment area, and on-site imaging services (X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT, and MRI). Support is provided by local Emergency Medical Services and Sentara's regional air ambulance, Nightingale, for patient transfers. Sentara Independence is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, quality nurses, and Sentara staff dedicated to providing expert emergency care.

Requirements

  • ADN required
  • Virginia or compact multistate RN (Registered Nurse) license in good standing
  • BLS within 90 days of hire
  • Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or higher preferred
  • RN experience in a hospital setting
  • ED experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Adhere to the standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion, and evaluation.
  • Uphold the standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
