The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED) utilizes the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan. This role involves patient and family engagement throughout the healthcare continuum, anticipating and recognizing changes in patient condition, and taking appropriate actions. The RN will mobilize resources, collaborate with healthcare team members, and implement strategies to reduce patient risk and enhance safety. They will also assess and address patient and family learning needs, coordinate discharge plans interdisciplinary, and apply evidence-based practice. The role requires adherence to nursing and regulatory standards, evaluation of patient, team, and unit outcomes, and participation in shared governance activities. Effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills are essential, as is the ability to promote collaboration and assume a leadership role in the care team, delegating appropriately. Promoting a culture of safety, reporting safety events, and applying ethical decision-making are also key responsibilities. The RN will participate in quality/process improvement initiatives and professional development activities, seeking opportunities for learning and mentorship. Annual competencies and required meetings/educational programs must be completed in a timely manner. The position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the life span and assessing/interpreting data relevant to patient needs.
