Registered Nurse (Donor Centre Nurse)
About The Position
Canadian Blood Services is looking for 8 Regular part-time Registered Nurses (Donor Centre Nurses) to join their dynamic Collections team in their Danforth and Dufferin donor centres. The Collections team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services in collecting donor blood and blood components safely to provide patients with lifesaving products daily. In this role, you will assist in the collection of blood and blood products, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and completion of required documentation. You will play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.
Requirements
- Completion of accredited nursing program.
- Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province.
- Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Ability to learn new systems and programs.
Nice To Haves
- 2 years of experience working as a nurse.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others.
- Ability to communicate in more than one language.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection of blood and blood products ensuring adherence to all safety protocols.
- Ensure all required documentation is carried out.
- Play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.
- Conduct registration and confidential screening, ensuring eligibility and fostering trust.
- Educate and empower donors by providing clear information, instructions, and guidance on blood donations and other ways to support Canada’s Lifeline.
- Provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
- Perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.
- Maintain complete and precise records across multiple systems, including screening, collection, product storage, sample preparation, and packaging for shipment.
- Share knowledge and support best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience.
