About The Position

The Cardiology Device Clinic Registered Nurse is responsible for maintaining daily operations of the St. Joseph’s Physicians Cardiology Device Clinic in collaboration with the RN Navigator, electrophysiology physicians, and clinic staff. This role supports clinic flow, ensures timely responses to patient needs, and provides expert evaluation and management of implanted cardiac devices.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of New York.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Participation in orientation, continuing education, and ongoing competency development related to assigned areas of expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain daily operations of the Cardiology Device Clinic in coordination with electrophysiology physicians, RN Navigator, and clinic staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, electrophysiology, and rhythm interpretation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of indications for implantation of pacemakers, bi-ventricular devices, defibrillators, and implantable loop recorders.
  • Demonstrate independent clinical thinking and decision-making within scope of nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pacing modes, arrhythmia detection parameters, and device therapy options.
  • Assess, interpret, and report implanted cardiac device function and recorded data.
  • Address patient questions and concerns via telephone, in-person visits, or MyChart messaging and escalate as appropriate.
  • Recognize normal versus abnormal device function and troubleshoot device-related issues within role capability.
  • Evaluate and appropriately classify cardiac arrhythmias and assess the effectiveness of prescribed therapy.
  • Identify inappropriate detection, therapy delivery, or therapy failure and collaborate with electrophysiology physicians in a timely manner.
  • Generate clinical summaries and device dockets using the Murj platform.
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient records related to device information, transmission history, and medical documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding device function and short- and long-term plans of care.
  • Triage phone calls related to ICDs, pacemakers, implantable loop recorders, and electrophysiology concerns.
  • Schedule in-clinic and remote monitoring visits for all device manufacturers, including Medtronic, Abbott, Boston Scientific, and Biotronik.
  • Coordinate with device company representatives to ensure in-office coverage for device interrogations.
  • Maintain device testing equipment and demonstrate appropriate operational knowledge.
  • Track device advisories, recalls, and alerts; assist physicians in identifying impacted patients and communicating advisory information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
