About The Position

The Cardiology Clinic Cardiac Device Registered Nurse monitors and reviews cardiac rhythms in person and from remote transmissions, retrieves and triages that information, prepares data for entry to electronic health record, and ensures physician evaluation with appropriate billing and follow up. This role involves the evaluation and programming of cardiovascular implantable electronic devices under the supervision of a physician, troubleshooting complex device programming issues, and providing timely feedback of cardiac device diagnostic information to physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. The nurse will interrogate devices (i.e., pacemakers and automated internal cardioverter defibrillators) and interpret devices for basic threshold and intracardiac measurements, making necessary program changes under the direction of the electrophysiologist. Additionally, the role includes examining wounds post-device implant, educating patients and families regarding device function and follow-up, ensuring correct billing and coding, managing remote device follow-up, maintaining the device database, and assisting in the maintenance of the daily schedule of all device clinics.

Requirements

  • Current Wisconsin RN Licensure
  • Minimum of 1 year: General Cardiac Experience Required
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) OR Associates Degree in Nursing with an agreement to obtain the BSN within five years.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation and EKG

  • Provides timely feedback of cardiac device diagnostic information to physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
  • Interrogates devices (i.e., pacemakers and automated internal cardioverter defibrillators) and interprets devices for basic threshold and intracardiac measurements, and makes necessary program changes under the direction of the electrophysiologist.
  • Examines wounds post-device implant on initial visit of all post-op patients to ensure the incision is healing appropriately and communicates issues or problems with the electrophysiologist.
  • Educates patients and families regarding device function, clinic follow-up scheduling, and device home monitoring.
  • Ensures correct billing and coding of device checks.
  • Manages remote device follow up and schedules follow up appointments with patients as appropriate based on the data interpretation.
  • Manages the device database by entering interrogation data.
  • Schedules follow up appointments with patients as appropriate based on the data interpretation.
  • Completes the charge capture process in the electronic medical record for all patients seen in the device clinic and/or captured by remote device follow-ups.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the daily schedule of all device clinics to ensure adequate clinical workflow.
