This is a Registered Nurse (RN) position on a general medical unit with oversight electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring available for patients on the General Internal Medicine (GIM) services. The unit has 39 beds and serves general medicine patients with a variety of acute or chronic health problems, often from outside the Rochester area. Complex discharge planning is frequently required for these patients. The unit fosters a shared decision-making framework to support professional development. The RN is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. They will uphold professional nursing practice across various settings and the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs, operating within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model. This includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients, guided by the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The RN provides leadership through roles such as preceptor, informal and formal leadership, and quality improvement initiatives. They delegate patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. The RN must possess excellent communication skills, be adept at mentoring and teaching, and may participate in committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as part of their role responsibilities. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
