Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS).
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.

Nice To Haves

  • For MJE Progressive Care: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
  • For NMH Critical Care: National Institute of Health Stoke Scale (NIHSS) certification training required by end of orientation.
  • For MJE Progressive Care: NIH Stroke Scale training required at hire or within 6 months of hire.
  • For MJE Progressive Care: Successful completion of Telemetry Cardiac Rhythm Course.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Certification(s) in area of specialty preferred from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility.
  • NMH Cardiac Unit: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
  • NMH Cardiovascular Surgery: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
  • NMH Progressive Care Unit 4: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
  • Surgery Outpatient HW: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR).
  • NMH Progressive Care: Gerontological Nursing (GERO.BC) and Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN).
  • NMH Surgery GI Lab: Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN).
  • NMH PACU: Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN)
  • NMH Cath Lab: Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (CV.BC) within 3 years of hire.
  • NMH Critical Care: Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment.
  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments to determine patient's nursing care needs, including data from patient/significant others and prioritizing data collection.
  • Develop, review, revise, and individualize the plan of care to address patient's nursing care needs for optimum outcomes, collaborating with providers and other disciplines, and providing patient-specific teaching.
  • Implement interventions consistent with the plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner, following nursing protocols and standards of care.
  • Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions, monitor outcomes, and document patient response.
  • Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety, learning new skills and equipment within specifications and timeframes.
  • Maintain professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization's mission, communicating effectively and maintaining a professional appearance and work environment.
  • Initiate action to correct, prevent, or minimize risks to the patient, family, or hospital employees, completing appropriate report forms for any risks.
  • Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice.
  • Be fiscally accountable and act professionally responsible for human and other resources, charging accurately for supplies and equipment.
