Requirements
- Graduate of a nursing program.
- Experience in both a Scrubbing and Circulating role is required.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Computer skills required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
- Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
- Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
- Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
- All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.
- All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
- Qualified applicants must live within a reasonable driving distance to campus to meet 45-minute on-call requirement.
- Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
Nice To Haves
- Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program preferred, but not required.
- One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is preferred.
- Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
Responsibilities
- Circulates and coordinates the surgical team in all aspects of OR activities, providing optimum perioperative nursing care.
- May be asked to scrub as needed.
- Functions as the patient's advocate.
- Coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
- Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care.
- Functions within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, including planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care.
- Provides leadership through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts.
- Delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability.
- Possesses excellent communication skills, is skillful in mentoring and teaching, and may participate on committees or projects.
