About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Burn Trauma, Intermediate Care - Medical/Surgical Unit. This unit has 34 beds, with 17 for intermediate care (stepdown) and 17 for medical/surgical care. The patient population includes neurosurgery, trauma, burns, orthopedic trauma, and bariatric weight loss patients. Intermediate care patients are received from the Burn Trauma ICU and Neurosurgical ICU. Nurses on this unit are trained to work both intermediate and medical-surgical sides. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 3-4 for intermediate care beds and 5-6 for medical/surgical beds. The RN will work collaboratively to maintain nursing care standards and meet patient needs. New graduate RNs are welcome and will participate in an 11-week Transition to Practice program, followed by a 6-month residency program.

Requirements

  • Education Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • None required (for experience)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching and health promotion, and evaluation).
  • Adhere to standards of professional performance including ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
  • Work in a collaborative role as part of a team to maintain and support the standards of nursing care and practice.
