About The Position

This unit is a bridged unit with a HEPA air filtration system, designed to protect immunosuppressed patients from airborne infections. Nurses provide care for patients undergoing autologous or allogeneic bone marrow transplants and peripheral stem cell infusions. Patients may be hospitalized during various stages of their wellness/illness from initial diagnosis through active treatment, recovery, or through end of life. As part of the Mayo Cancer Center, the unit participates in individual and group cancer research programs. The unit has a total of 19 beds, divided into Pod A and Pod B. Pod A includes six inpatient private rooms, one outpatient double room, and four private outpatient rooms, along with two outpatient exam rooms. Pod B consists of eight private inpatient rooms, two of which are equipped for isolation with ante rooms. One room (9-420) has the capability of reversing airflow to negative pressure. Nurses on this unit have specialized education to provide services such as apheresis/marrow harvest preparatory regimens, chemotherapy, blood transfusions, intensive supportive therapies for immunocompromised patients, and stem cell and marrow infusions. Emotional support and patient/family teaching are crucial components of care for these often acutely ill patients. The Mayo Nursing Care Model is utilized for care delivery. Patients are followed as hospital-based outpatients on this unit, both before and after transplant. Requirements

Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
One year of RN experience required.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020, and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Experience working in a team environment.
Computer skills required.
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).
Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
