About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse on the BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) unit, specifically on the 14 & 15W James floors, which is an Oncology/Mixed acuity PCU and MS unit. The role requires experience with Medical-Surgical (MS) and oncology patients, with a minimum of one year of experience. Hematology Oncology experience is strongly preferred. Chemotherapy certification is not required. The unit manages patients with various diagnoses including Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult), Amyloidosis, Aplastic Anemia, Chronic Leukemia, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), Chronic Myeloid (Myelogenous) Leukemia, Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Myeloproliferative Disorders, and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Special procedures and unit details include managing patients undergoing Autologous Transplants, Syngeneic Transplants, Allogeneic Transplants, and CAR-T Therapy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical (MS) and oncology experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Proficiency in MS/Tele (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry).
  • Ability to perform telemetry monitoring.
  • Skill in interpretation of dysrhythmias.
  • Experience with the use of Rapid Response Teams.
  • Experience with feeding tube care and management.
  • Experience with blood product administration.
  • Experience with central line blood draws.
  • Experience with peripheral line care/management.
  • Experience with PICC line management.
  • Experience with nasal cannula administration.

Nice To Haves

  • Hematology Oncology experience.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification.
  • Oncology Certified.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care for patients undergoing various types of stem cell transplants (Autologous, Syngeneic, Allogeneic) and CAR-T Therapy.
  • Manage patients with a wide range of hematological and oncological diagnoses.
  • Perform telemetry monitoring and interpret dysrhythmias.
  • Utilize Rapid Response Teams when necessary.
  • Provide feeding tube care and management.
  • Administer blood products.
  • Manage central lines for blood draws.
  • Provide care and management for peripheral lines and PICC lines.
  • Administer oxygen via nasal cannula.
