About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse on the BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) unit, specifically on the 14 & 15W James floors. This unit is part of Oncology and handles mixed acuity PCU and MS (Progressive Care / Medical-Surgical) patients. The role involves caring for patients with various hematologic malignancies and undergoing complex transplant procedures, including Autologous, Syngeneic, and Allogeneic Transplants, as well as CAR-T Therapy. The nurse will be responsible for telemetry monitoring, interpretation of dysrhythmias, and utilizing Rapid Response Teams. Skills include feeding tube care and management, blood product administration, central line blood draw and sterile dressing changes, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, and nasal cannula administration. EPIC experience is required for computerized charting. The unit details include information on different types of transplants and CAR-T therapy. Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of inpatient hematology oncology experience.
  • Medical-Surgical (MS) experience.
  • Chemo certification is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification.
  • EPIC experience required for computerized charting.
  • Skills in MS/Tele (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry).
  • Skills in Telemetry monitoring.
  • Skills in Interpretation of dysrhythmias.
  • Skills in Use of Rapid Response Teams.
  • Skills in Feeding tube care and management.
  • Skills in Blood product administration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients with diagnoses including Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult), Amyloidosis, Aplastic Anemia, Chronic Leukemia, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), Chronic Myeloid (Myelogenous) Leukemia, Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, Myeloproliferative Disorders, and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
  • Care for patients undergoing Autologous Transplants (receiving their own stem cells).
  • Care for patients undergoing Syngeneic Transplants (receiving stem cells from an identical twin).
  • Care for patients undergoing Allogeneic Transplants (receiving stem cells from a sibling, parent, or unrelated donor).
  • Provide care for patients undergoing CAR-T Therapy.
  • Perform telemetry monitoring and interpret dysrhythmias.
  • Utilize Rapid Response Teams.
  • Manage feeding tubes.
  • Administer blood products.
  • Perform central line blood draws.
  • Manage peripheral lines.
  • Manage PICC lines.
  • Administer oxygen via nasal cannula.
