About The Position

Registered Nurse (RN), Behavioral Health. This is a Full-Time position working Nights 7:00 pm-7:00 am, with rotating weekends in Etowah, TN. A $20,000 Sign-On Bonus is available for qualified applicants. Starr Regional Medical Center, part of Lifepoint Health, is seeking a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) to join their team. This role is vital in making communities healthier. The team specializes in Dementia with Behavioral disturbances for patients aged 50 and above on a 24-bed unit. They maintain a 1:7 nurse-to-patient ratio and have medical and psych oversight with patients seen 6-7 days a week. The unit is recently renovated with updated equipment and is attached to an Emergency Room with 24/7 physician availability.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree required.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required at the time of hire.
  • Must be a licensed Registered Nurse with the State of Tennessee or a licensed Registered Nurse from a Compact State with the proper Tennessee paperwork filed within 30 days of hire.

  • BSN preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support required within 6 months of hire or department transfer

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
  • Establishes a plan of care which is appropriate to problems identified and involves the patient according to his or her capabilities and desires.
  • Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
  • Assists in determining staffing levels and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
  • Takes patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
  • Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
  • Performs role-specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
  • Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.
  • Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
