About The Position

This is a full-time Registered Nurse Apprentice position within the LPN to RN (LEAP) program. The role is in the Medical Surgical Unit A at Lexington Medical Center and involves working 36 hours per week on 12-hour shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM. The program is designed for individuals who have recently graduated from a Practical Nursing Program and are pursuing an Associate Degree in Nursing to become a Registered Nurse. The apprentice will collect and interpret patient data, determine patient needs for intervention, and utilize the nursing process in collaboration with an RN to provide patient-centered care. Responsibilities include maintaining a safe environment, utilizing technology, communicating effectively, participating in professional development, acting as a patient advocate, and coordinating patient care delivery. The role also involves delegating tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel and other LPNs.

Requirements

Graduation from Davidson County Community College Practical Nursing Program within the last 12 months.
Applicants are expected to complete the Associate Degree Nursing program pathway through DCCC.
Pass the NCLEX-RN and obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of applicable state.
Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of applicable state.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to utilize various computer systems and applications.
Works collaboratively.
Provides direct and indirect patient care.
Perform nursing skills that are needed for direct bedside nursing care.
Knowledge of basic nursing principles and protocols.
Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and protocols.
Establishes a safe work environment for self, team members, patients, and family.

Responsibilities

Collects and interprets data directly related to patient care needs and in relation to the medical diagnosis.
Determines immediate patient needs for intervention.
Utilizes the nursing process, in collaboration with the RN, to provide patient-centered care focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
Provides collected data and interpretive input for the assessment, development of nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation of interventions, coordination of care, reinforcement of health teaching and promotion and evaluation of goals and interventions.
Maintains a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
Utilizes and promotes the use of technology and equipment to enhance the safety of patients and staff.
Communicates effectively to promote sharing of information throughout the continuum of care and as an effective member of the healthcare team.
Demonstrates the ability to function in a professional setting through active participation in a professional practice model.
Participates in shared governance, adherence to standards of care, participation in peer review and professional development promoting leadership and clinical excellence, effective team skills, autonomous practice and acknowledgment of accountability for actions and critical thinking.
Acts as a patient advocate throughout the continuum of care, including all patient settings and in the community.
Coordinates the effective and efficient delivery of patient care through the application of care management principles.
