About The Position

Join UPMC Presbyterian's Adult Acute Care Team on the 10 South unit, a 30-bed acuity-adaptable medical unit. This team-driven unit cares for a general medical patient population, as well as overflow patients from orthopedics, ENT, hepatology, urology, and abdominal transplant. The diverse patient population and varying levels of acuity make 10 South an excellent environment for both new graduate nurses and experienced nurses looking to expand their clinical knowledge. The division of Adult Acute Care is the largest admitting service for patients to the general medicine service at UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore Hospitals, treating patients of all ages for a wide array of conditions requiring compassionate and expert nursing care.

Requirements

  • Graduate Nurses that are eligible for the State Board Licensure and Staff Nurses with nursing experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.
  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS required within 12 months of beginning employment.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate and expert nursing care to a diverse patient population with a wide array of conditions.
  • Care for a general medical patient population and overflow patients from various specialties.
  • Assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients’ requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  • Provide care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handling multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Utilize good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Apply the nursing process, exercising critical thinking skills to lead others.
  • Perform frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
