About The Position

This is a closed unit that cares for patients between the ages of 2-18 years. The program offers admission to children and adolescents in psychiatric crisis. The program is based on a short-term crisis intervention treatment model. The program provides a safe, supportive, highly structured environment staffed by nurses, patient care assistants, psychiatrists, psychologists, a music therapist, social workers, and specialty physicians. The program includes a thorough assessment of the biological, medical, developmental, psychosocial, psychological, and educational skills and deficits that might contribute to the well-being of the child and family.

Requirements

  • Registered nurse (RN)
  • State licensure
  • Completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification (for TN sponsorship)

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care.
  • Supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  • Functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.
  • A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.
