About The Position

The Forensic Education Nurse Clinician provides specialized forensic nursing expertise and educational support to nursing and medical staff. This role leads evidence-based clinical and educational initiatives, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care, and promotes compliance with Joint Commission standards, the Ohio Protocol for Sexual Assault, and organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 2+ years Nursing Experience (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstration of advanced educational leadership and clinical practice (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of nursing process and practice. (Required proficiency)
  • Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed clinical therapies (ie. stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers, and electronic monitoring devices. (Required proficiency)
  • Registered Nurse (RN), Ohio and/or Multi State Compact License (Required Upon Hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required Upon Hire)
  • Nursing Specialty Certification (Required) SANE-A Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Master's in nursing; Health AD, Education, Women’s Health or Forensics (Preferred)
  • 5 years clinical and forensic nursing experience (Preferred).
  • Demonstrated education and clinical practice work in forensic nursing unit
  • 5+ years Clinical Nursing Experience (Strongly preferred)
  • Demonstration of community agency advocacy collaboration and committee involvement
  • Demonstration of forensic educational presentations/training for hospital and community audiences.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) May be required based on the clinical care standards of the unit. (optional)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for forensic education to nurses and care providers to enhance specialized patient care within established healthcare setting.
  • Assists patients and caregivers with educational needs, problem resolution, and health management across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborates with medical providers, nursing staff, and unit executive leadership in planning, implementation, and delivery of educational curricula and forensic patient care.
  • Initiates skills development programs within the parameters of established care models; monitors trends and implements educational strategies to ensure compliance with quality standards and parameters.
  • Participates in preceptor clinical training for nurses completing orientation in forensic nursing, providing specialized instruction on patient care utilizing the Ohio Protocol for Sexual Assault and Evidence Collection.
  • Develops patient care plans, incorporating evidenced-based research and national standards; consults with and serves as a resource to ensure quality patient care.
  • Educates technical and patient care staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments; coordinates in-service training and workshops for appropriate staff.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs direct clinical nursing care with a minimum of 40% of scheduled shifts, along with miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
