About The Position

Performs specialized diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac procedures according to departmental protocol and physician orders, and assists cardiologists and other physicians as required. The role requires knowledge of radiographic, cardiac, and peripheral vascular anatomy and the ability to use specialized radiographic equipment and technical instruments, including pressure injectors, digital imaging, and patient-monitoring equipment. The specialist must know which catheters and guide-wires are appropriate for specific procedures and be able to work under stressful conditions.

The incumbent identifies the care needs of patients and their significant others, implements interventions, and uses equipment to meet the needs of young, middle, and late adults. The role follows organizational and department policies, procedures, objectives, quality-assessment requirements, and safety practices. It includes applying radiation-safety procedures to protect patients, coworkers, and self; using shielding materials and patient-restraint devices; and understanding sterilization techniques.

The position reports to and is supervised by the Nurse-in-Charge of the Cardiac Cath Lab, under the direction of the Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab. This PRN role is based in Silver Spring and involves rotating, on-call, and STEMI shifts.

Requirements

• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) designation from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or a nationally recognized agency that conducts programmatic accreditation for cardiovascular technology, diagnostic cardiac sonography, or vascular technology.
• Registered in the State of Maryland.
• American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Knowledge of radiographic, cardiac, and peripheral vascular anatomy.
• Ability to use specialized radiographic equipment and technical instruments, including pressure injectors, digital imaging, and patient-monitoring equipment.
• Knowledge of appropriate catheters and guide-wires for specific procedures.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions.
• Knowledge of radiation-safety procedures, shielding materials, patient-restraint devices, and sterilization techniques.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of Cardiac Cath Lab experience is highly preferred.
