Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential and a degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, or other related field
  • 1–3 years of experience (experience in schools or food service preferred)
  • Knowledge of USDA child nutrition programs and school meal standards
  • Comfortable using menu planning software
  • Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • A warm, people-first attitude and a passion for making a difference
  • Willingness to travel locally to support schools when needed (several times/week)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Food Science, Nutrition, or a related field required; advanced degree a plus.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential required; must maintain active registration and all continuing education requirements; SERV Safe, membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a school nutrition, healthcare, or food manufacturing setting required; K-12 school nutrition experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in state and federal nutritional standards including the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, NSLP, SBP, and HHFKA requirements across multiple age groups; experience with state administrative review processes a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required; proficiency in menu analysis software including Meal Tracker, Simple Serve, Nutri Kids, and/or Genesis required or must demonstrate ability to become proficient upon hire.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; excellent oral and written communication skills with a passion for results and attention to detail.
  • Requires occasional travel to client locations within and outside New York using personal transportation; must maintain access to a personal smartphone for performance of job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Keep everything nutrition-compliant, from menus to production records
  • Work with kitchen managers to place food orders, reconcile invoices, and complete daily meal data entry
  • Communicate directly with kitchen managers to provide recipes and answer questions about menu and compliance
  • Provide hands-on support to food service teams during breakfast and lunch service
  • Develop plans to support students with food allergies or special diets, collaborate with families and district health providers
  • Be our go-to nutrition expert during state audits and reviews
  • Offer friendly nutrition guidance to students and families
  • Applies rigorous analytical skills to menu analysis, recipe development, and regulatory compliance review; identifies data discrepancies and resolves them with precision.
  • Maintains deep, current expertise in USDA, NSLP, SBP, HHFKA, and applicable state school nutrition regulations; serves as the go-to compliance resource for operations and culinary teams.
  • Conveys complex nutrition and regulatory information clearly to diverse audiences including school district administrators, food service staff, and students; develops accessible, practical tools and educational content.
  • Responsive to the needs of school district clients, students with special dietary requirements, and internal culinary and operations partners; approaches each interaction with professionalism and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Demonstrates precision in recipe entry, menu documentation, nutrition data management, and compliance recordkeeping; understands that accuracy in this role directly supports audit outcomes and student health.
  • Works effectively across culinary, operations, and school district teams; contributes as a subject matter expert on cross-functional projects and supports a culture of nutritional excellence.
  • Manages multiple concurrent projects, documentation responsibilities, and client commitments with structure and reliability; meets deadlines consistently in a deadline-driven environment.
