About The Position

TakeAction Minnesota is seeking a Campaign Lead for Public Schools to play a critical role in developing strategic campaigns with MN Families for Public Schools leaders. The goal is to build power and fight for transformative funding for public education in Minnesota. This role is a leader in developing and implementing a long-term power-building program focused on leadership development, strategic campaigning, and multiracial, cross-class, statewide base-building that reflects the lived experiences and self-interest of families, students, and educators. The Campaign Lead will be a key member of the team responsible for identifying and designing strategic campaigns, and managing the day-to-day work of campaign strategies and tactics for public schools organizing. This role will also strategically engage with organizers and leaders from other TakeAction bases and with statewide partners and coalitions to advance bold and aligned campaigns.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment and relationships to public schools.
  • Natural curiosity about people and the ability to build rapport across lines of difference; able to both listen deeply and engage boldly with strangers and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice, and to advancing progressive political change through building grassroots power.
  • Ability to balance long-term strategy with the day-to-day management of campaigns.
  • Strong team leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience using a range of campaign strategies and tactics with an emphasis on leadership development, including direct action, communications, organizing, and more.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead winning campaigns while developing the leadership of everyday people.
  • Willingness to offer ideas, receive feedback, adapt plans, and actively contribute to solutions.
  • Reliable follow-through and strong communication skills in working with both leaders and co-workers.
  • Openness to being challenged and to challenging others in service of collective growth and leadership development.
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as campaign needs require.
  • Some experience—paid, volunteer, or school-based—in community organizing, political campaigns, labor organizing, or other collective action efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead strategic statewide campaigns in partnership with MN Families for Public Schools teams and TAMN staff to organize communities and secure transformational funding for Minnesota public schools.
  • Design and oversee organizing programs that strengthen base teams through base-building, leadership development, issue-cutting, and campaign planning processes.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of statewide campaigns, ensuring alignment across multiple organizing strategies, teams, and partners.
  • Lead campaign planning and goal setting, creating systems that drive accountability, measure progress, and adapt strategies to achieve campaign objectives.
  • Design growth pathways through roles and leadership in teams that enable members to take on increasing responsibility in outreach, campaigns, and decision-making.
  • Coordinate leaders and staff who are leading their own teams in these responsibilities.
  • Equip members with the skills needed for campaign leadership, organizing strategy, and long-term power-building.
  • Train and coach leaders in roles, with a focus on developing their leadership through one-on-one interactions and effective meeting design and facilitation.
  • Serve as a lead trainer and leader on training design across the organization.
  • Design and manage systems for accurate member and event records in the organizational database.
  • Analyze data to track progress toward goals, identify challenges, and implement troubleshooting strategies to strengthen organizing efforts.
  • Manage staff and leaders to understand and have roles in tracking and using data.
  • Engage members in fundraising to support parent and family organizing in public schools.
  • Help develop plans to build money power and sustainability within the base.
  • Identify, hold, and manage relationships with external organizations and partners to enhance organizing capacity, campaign impact, and movement alignment.
  • Identify relevant opportunities for collaboration.
  • Track the political landscape to be aware of strategic opportunities and considerations for local and statewide campaigns.
  • Participate as a strategic, creative, and invested leader alongside organizing teams and TakeAction staff to advance strategic objectives and build a strong power organization.
