About The Position

Carpenter Dental is seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist to join a dynamic practice that has served patients for 20 years. The practice treats patients aged 2 and up with a variety of needs and emphasizes listening to patients, building trust, and helping them understand their oral health. The team values healthy gums and bone as the foundation of dentistry and supports collaboration and continued improvement among its hygienists and other team members. The hygienist will focus on treating periodontal disease and serve as a foundational team member, including co-diagnosing with dentists. A South Dakota license is required; local anesthetic and nitrous certification or experience are strongly preferred. The role is available full-time or part-time and is performed in person.

Requirements

South Dakota dental hygienist license.

Responsibilities

Maintain equipment and instruments, including sterilizing and sharpening instruments.
Obtain current medical histories, including conditions and medications, and assess their oral health implications.
Gather diagnostic images and records, including patient photos, X-rays, intraoral photos, and accurate dental and periodontal charting, to support treatment planning and diagnosis.
Use ultrasonic scalers, hand scalers, and polishers to remove biofilm, while refining clinical skills.
Educate patients about their oral health conditions and recommend treatment in anticipation of the dentist’s diagnosis.
Present thorough treatment plans and answer questions about procedures and finances.
Ensure patients are scheduled for their next hygiene appointment.
Learn and use the cloud-based Curve Dental software.
Maintain OSHA protocols before, during, and after patient care.
Document pertinent appointment information precisely.
