About The Position

In this role, you will provide preventative dental care and oral health services to residents within the detention facility while supporting dentists and healthcare personnel with clinical dental operations in accordance with government detention standards, healthcare regulations, and infection prevention procedures. You will perform dental cleanings, oral assessments, patient education, and preventative treatment services while maintaining accurate clinical documentation and supporting resident oral health within a secure detention healthcare environment. This position requires strong clinical skills, professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to provide effective dental care while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Must possess an active Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license issued by the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners (AZBDE).
  • Must possess one (1) year of experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist.
  • Must possess and maintain a CPR/BLS certification.
  • Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
  • If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
  • Must consent to fingerprinting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform dental cleanings, scaling, polishing, fluoride treatments, periodontal assessments, and other preventative dental hygiene procedures within the approved scope of practice.
  • Conduct oral health screenings and assess residents for signs of gum disease, tooth decay, oral infections, or other dental health concerns requiring further treatment.
  • Assist dentists during examinations, treatment procedures, emergency dental care activities, and resident oral healthcare evaluations.
  • Educate residents on oral hygiene practices, preventative dental care, and treatment recommendations to support long-term oral health and wellness.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, sterilize dental instruments, sanitize equipment, and maintain infection prevention standards in accordance with OSHA and healthcare requirements.
  • Maintain accurate dental hygiene documentation, treatment records, healthcare notes, x-ray information, and operational reports in compliance with HIPAA requirements and facility standards.
  • Operate dental equipment, x-ray systems, sterilization devices, and clinical tools safely and efficiently while ensuring operational readiness.
  • Monitor inventory levels of dental supplies, sanitation materials, treatment products, and operational equipment while reporting shortages or maintenance concerns.
  • Coordinate resident dental appointments, follow-up care, specialty referrals, and treatment schedules with healthcare personnel and detention staff.
  • Ensure all dental hygiene services comply with government detention standards, healthcare regulations, infection prevention procedures, and facility operational policies.
  • Support audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, and compliance assessments related to dental healthcare services and clinical operations.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, effective communication, and strong clinical judgment while supporting safe and efficient dental healthcare operations within the detention facility.
