About The Position

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking compassionate volunteers for its Basking Ridge outpatient facility. Volunteers help create a welcoming, supportive environment for patients and caregivers and contribute to a positive patient experience. This is an unpaid volunteer role, with a commitment of one three-hour shift per week for at least six months. Volunteers must complete onboarding, which takes an average of four to six weeks.

Requirements

• At least 16 years old.
• Available for one three-hour shift per week for a minimum of six months.
• Former or current MSK patients must be at least one year out of active treatment.
• Friendly and dependable, and comfortable interacting respectfully and compassionately with patients, families, and staff.
• Complete onboarding within four to six weeks to remain active in the program.
• Complete two to three reference checks, a background check and drug screen if age 18 or older, and medical clearance, including required flu and other immunizations at the applicant’s expense.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and caregivers upon arrival.
• Support wayfinding by escorting visitors or answering general inquiries.
• Offer friendly conversation and reading materials to help patients feel comfortable.
• Organize supplies, restock stations, and offer warm blankets.
• Support programs and special events.
• Help patients navigate tools such as MSK MyChart.
