About The Position

MSK is seeking compassionate volunteers for its Monmouth outpatient facility in Middletown, New Jersey. Volunteers help create a welcoming, supportive environment for patients and caregivers. This is an unpaid volunteer role intended for individuals seeking a meaningful, long-term opportunity to support patients, families, and staff.

Volunteers must commit to one three-hour shift per week for at least six months. Available shifts are Monday through Saturday, with weekday shifts from 9 a.m.–12 p.m., 12–3 p.m., 3–6 p.m., or 4–7 p.m.; Saturday shifts are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Applicants should indicate all available shifts. The onboarding process averages four to six weeks and includes a virtual interview, reference checks, and, for applicants age 18 or older, a background check and drug screen. Medical clearance, including flu and other immunizations, is required at the applicant’s expense. Onboarding must be completed within four to six weeks; applications with onboarding tasks pending for 30 or more days may be rejected.

Requirements

• Age 16 or older.
• Commit to one three-hour shift per week for a minimum of six months.
• Former or current MSK patients must be at least one year out of active treatment.
• Be friendly, dependable, and comfortable interacting respectfully and compassionately with patients, families, and staff.
• Complete medical clearance, including flu and other immunizations, at the applicant’s expense.
• Complete onboarding within four to six weeks.
• Applicants aged 18 or older must complete a background check and drug screen.
• Provide two to three references to verify reliability and skills.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and caregivers upon arrival.
• Help visitors find their destinations by escorting them or answering general inquiries.
• Offer friendly conversation or reading materials to foster comfort and connection.
• Organize supplies, restock stations, and offer warm blankets.
• Support programs and special events.
• Assist patients with navigating tools such as MSK MyChart.
