About The Position

The primary job goals are to: Hire, train and supervise ancillary staff, assist Schools in providing effective special education programming, and assist districts with compliance related activities. The position requires a Master's degree and a special education supervisor/director endorsement or professional certification. Three years of experience in special education administration or a related leadership role is preferred. Essential job functions include clear communication, delineating roles, leading teams, providing technical assistance and professional learning, monitoring compliance, advising on legal issues, assisting with crisis situations, making student-centered decisions, adhering to policies, and completing assigned responsibilities within timelines. A valid driver's license is required, and the role involves sitting and working on a computer for extended periods, moving between buildings, and traveling across the county.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required
  • Endorsement or other professional certification for the provision of special education, special education supervisor/director Full Approval with adequate continuing education credits toward maintaining such certifications are required.
  • Consideration will be given to those eligible for temporary approval (requires a Master's degree, 3 years of special education experience, and university enrollment verification).
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Sit and work on a computer for long periods of time

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train and supervise ancillary staff
  • Assist Schools in providing effective special education programming
  • Assist districts with compliance related activities
  • Delineate roles and responsibilities of ancillary staff
  • Lead teams to establish and adhere to effective and efficient processes
  • Create and provide effective technical assistance, coaching and professional learning in a variety of formats on issues pertaining to special education
  • Monitor and assist in the compliance and correction of special education results
  • Serve as an advisor for all special education legal issues and a liaison between the LEA and VBISD
  • Assist in addressing crisis situations; facilitate and resolve contentious issues, IEPs, concerns and complaints
  • Make student-centered decisions
  • Adhere to federal, state and VBISD policies and procedures
  • Model VBISD guidelines: Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence
  • Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon timelines
  • Seek ongoing improvement and accept feedback in a professional way
  • Perform additional tasks, responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Director or Superintendent
