About The Position

This position provides educational leadership to the Catholic Schools in a respective region in collaboration with the Superintendent of Schools' staff and pastors of parish-based schools. The Regional Superintendent acts as the primary spiritual, instructional, and leadership leader for their region of schools, monitoring and assessing Catholic Identity, academic achievement, and leadership effectiveness. This role involves collaborating with various departments within the Archdiocese, developing strategic plans, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with Archdiocesan policies and state certifications. The position also involves direct supervision of regional office staff and serves as a liaison with public school officials.

Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing
  • Master's degree required in Education
  • 5+ years as a principal in Catholic schools
  • School Building Leadership Certification required
  • Must have own transportation to travel within the archdiocese
  • Data analysis skills to analyze and interpret data and make suggestions for improving performance.
  • Curriculum development skills to promote understanding of the core curriculum and provide direction for staff developing expertise.
  • Evaluation skills to monitor transfer of skills from presentations to classroom and provide rubrics to examine progress.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess the Catholic Identity of every school as well as the quality of its programs.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Catholic Identity to ensure the schools are Christ-Centered.
  • Encourage school administration to promote/practice regular routine of prayer that includes Mass, daily prayer, seasonal devotions (i.e. Rosary, Stations of the Cross), and reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.
  • Confirm principals and teachers are properly certified with either Level I and Level II Catechist Certification or have a Master's Degree in religious studies from a Catholic institution, as per the prescriptions of the union contract.
  • Ensure all schools within the region participate in the annual Spirituality Day.
  • Monitor and assess the academic achievement of every school as well as the quality of its programs.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Teaching and Learning to ensure the schools are academically excellent.
  • Develop an annual academic and professional development plan for the schools within the region based on the academic goals and priorities established by the Office of Teaching and Learning.
  • Supervise and evaluate the effectiveness of the Instructional Specialists in attaining the academic goals of the region.
  • Monitor principals' academic achievement goals, objectives, and long-range plans to ensure they are aligned with the region's goals.
  • Hold follow-up meetings with principals of high-need schools to review action plans and strategies and conduct periodic visits to these schools.
  • Monitor the protocol for school "walkthroughs" identifying key elements under evaluation, procedures for communicating / addressing areas of concern and documenting results.
  • Make announced and unannounced visits to all principals and conduct school walkthroughs to ensure effective instruction.
  • Review all Data Day school-based plans and progress reports generated by the schools during data day.
  • Review the evaluation's summary reports for all principals and consult with each regarding his or her academic goals.
  • Provide appropriate consultation and ongoing support for schools to maintain Archdiocesan recognized school accreditation status.
  • Promote schools in his/her region to become NCEA Catholic Schools of Distinction.
  • Monitor and assess the leadership of every school as well as the quality of its programs.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Leadership, Formation and Recruitment to ensure leadership effectiveness.
  • Assist with the recruiting and formation of school principals.
  • Support and give input into the Newly Appointed Principal Onboarding and Formation Program, the Newly Appointed Principal Meetings, and the semi-annual Administrators' Meetings.
  • Assist in mentoring at-risk principals by participating in monthly meetings to review progress, offering resources to support these principals, and counseling them out of their roles when necessary.
  • Promote compliance with the requirement that all principals obtain NYS Certification in Administration.
  • Evaluate principals in accord with the Archdiocesan policy to determine leadership effectiveness and provide support to schools transitioning to new leadership.
  • After sharing concerns with the Associate Superintendent for Leadership, Formation and Recruitment, recommend the discipline or termination of employment of principals to the Superintendent of Schools for consideration and action.
  • Act as the Superintendent's representative with local public-school officials.
  • Keep the Superintendent informed of the condition of the region's educational system.
  • Coordinate and plan, in conjunction with the Office of the Superintendent, regional professional development offerings and the allocation of government resources to maximize the effectiveness of such programs.
  • Promote current and future strategic planning initiatives as they relate to further enhancing the Catholic Identity of the schools in the region.
  • Work with the Regional Finance Manager who is charged with the oversight of the region's business operations.
  • Oversee the education staff in the Regional Office, including the Instructional Specialist, Director of Enrollment and Regional Superintendent Administrative Assistant.
  • Seek to address complaints, comments, and concerns regarding the educational operations of the schools that cannot be addressed by the principal.
  • Serve as a mediator in conflict resolution at the schools between individuals from the various school constituencies.
  • Support the successful implementation of the Safe Environment Program.
  • Monitor the Regional Office budget.
  • Perform other special projects and duties as assigned by Superintendent and/or Deputy Superintendent.
