About The Position

This role is focused on providing leadership for the Great Lakes Region of CannonDesign, concentrating on the overall growth of the health market within that region. The position involves developing and leading high-performance, diverse teams to implement regional health and local office strategies. Key contributions include strategy and market intelligence, business development and strategic client positioning, client and team leadership, recruiting for strategic roles, and expertise and resource development, including mentoring staff. The role is accountable for integrating design services, managing processes, and ensuring solid financial performance for the region. The individual will act as a brand ambassador, championing Living-Centered Design and the firm's purpose of helping people continuously flourish. Responsibilities include building a team of Market Leaders for local strategy implementation, supporting smaller offices until they require dedicated leadership, and collaborating with the Executive Director of the Region and Health Practice National Leaders on business plans and strategies. The focus will be on strategic activities and top-tier client pursuits that support regional health market growth, including external brand opportunities, and client and team leadership on projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.
  • Minimum of 18 years of experience with a proven track record of strategic growth, market and team leadership, and business development success in the Health Market.
  • Strong presentations skills are essential.
  • Exceptional client and people leadership skills are required.
  • Strong business acumen and proven ability to create and execute strategy is needed.
  • Professional acumen and maturity demonstrated by the ability to communicate authentically and respectfully is essential.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and develop high-performing, accountable teams.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sound judgement and a sound approach regarding risk management and mitigation.
  • Some travel is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Registration/Licensure in Architecture, Interior Design or Engineering preferred.
  • Additional certifications and/or training relevant to this role are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and leading high-performance diverse teams focused on the development and implementation of the Regional Health and local office strategies.
  • Contributing to the success of the firm in areas of strategy and market intelligence, business development and strategic client positioning, client and team leadership, recruiting for strategic roles, and expertise and resource development including mentoring of our people.
  • Integrating a range of design services, managing processes, and delivering solid financial performance for the Region.
  • Acting as an ambassador of the brand, championing Living-Centered Design and bringing the Firm's purpose to life.
  • Building a team of Market Leaders to implement strategies locally.
  • Helping smaller offices grow until size and impact require a Market Leader.
  • Working with the Executive Director of the Region and the Health Practice National Leaders to build regional and office business plans and strategies.
  • Focusing time on strategic activities and top-tier client pursuits that support the growth and impact of the health market regionally, including external brand opportunities.
  • Focusing time on client and team leadership responsibilities engaged directly on projects.
  • Leveraging Market Intelligence and working with Market Leaders’ intelligence to develop and implement a business plan focused on future growth strategies, resource needs, and brand opportunities that position the market for the future.
  • Accountable for the overall growth and success of the Regional Health Market.
  • Developing and positioning CannonDesign for new business opportunities with premier target clients and opportunities that advance our brand and achieve top line targets, supporting a minimum 10% growth of the market year over year.
  • Leading, engaging, and partnering at the highest levels with clients on billable project-specific work.
  • Advancing innovative solutions that differentiate the firm and foster strong long-term client relationships that present opportunities for future work.
  • Acting as a leading voice for the region both externally and internally, visible in speaking events, writing, and other activities that promote the firm and our work.
  • Developing and advancing strategic initiatives and client pursuit strategies that lead to the growth of the regional market.
  • Working with other Market Leadership to lead the development of the business plan, outlining strategies and actionable items that improve the regional market by advancing client engagement and development, market differentiation, brand recognition, and team building/leadership in concert with firm-wide goals.
  • Working with Market Leaders, Client Leaders, and other firm-wide resources to focus on growing the top line of the regional market by identifying and actively pursuing new target clients as well as nurturing existing ones.
  • Seeking to identify and position CannonDesign in the marketplace and promote the full range of integrated design services, supporting the advancement of Living-Centered Design in all phases of client engagement.
  • Accountable for the overall top line results of the region and having a personal goal of achieving top line success of $5.0M per year in net signed fees.
  • Leading by example and demonstrating commitment to clients by undertaking work in an active way on select client project opportunities.
  • Serving as a client leader and/or subject matter expert where appropriate.
  • Identifying future market trends and opportunities for growth and advancement of the submarket.
  • Demonstrating a high level of knowledge of the market, including “Best Practices,” and evidence-based and research-based design.
  • Collaborating with the Regional Director, Regional Process Director, Office Practice Leader, and Market Leaders to ensure that the business plan bottom line initiatives are successfully implemented.
  • Achieving at a minimum the firm’s profitability goals for the market each year.
  • Knowing the Marketplace, building a network, and recruiting top-tier talent and expertise to build a high-performance team.
  • Assessing, mentoring, and coaching staff to develop future leaders in the market.
  • Taking ownership for the growth of a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Assisting in establishing an environment that encourages leadership, integrity, humility, respect, and responsibility, along with collaboration, experimentation, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
