About The Position

ACCEL Schools is seeking a Regional Director of Academics in Cincinnati, Ohio, to help create rigorous, nurturing learning environments focused on student engagement and achievement. The role serves on school leadership teams and builds the capacity of schools and teachers to meet students’ learning needs and improve classroom instruction and academic outcomes.

The Regional Director provides job-embedded, ongoing professional development and coaching support to Directors of Academics, teachers, staff, and administrators. The role supports principals and school staff with data analysis and professional-development decisions, and guides Directors of Academics in strengthening content knowledge and coaching practices. The position also requires daily on-site support to schools on an assigned schedule and collaboration with ACCEL Shared Services teams and the Regional Vice President to align school goals and strategies.

ACCEL Schools is a network of more than 100 public charter schools serving PK–12 students. Its schools include brick-and-mortar, virtual, and hybrid models and serve urban, suburban, and rural communities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Ohio teaching credential authorizing services in the area of responsibility.
• Experience in differentiated instruction in a standards-based curriculum.
• Required training and certification for the relevant content area(s).
• At least 3 years of successful instructional coaching experience.
• Evidence of leadership roles.
• Deep knowledge of relevant content areas and skillful application of research-based strategies that provide access to content standards for scholars at all academic levels.
• Knowledge and use of a broad range of instructional approaches, resources, and technologies in relevant content areas.
• Skill in analyzing and using data for instructional decision-making, especially differentiated instruction for scholars at all academic levels.
• Interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills needed to facilitate coaching and staff development effectively.
• Ability to design high-quality professional development for school leaders, independently or collaboratively.
• Knowledge and skills to implement a standards-based curriculum with approved instructional materials.

Responsibilities

• Participate in and/or deliver all required Director of Academics professional development.
• Acquire and maintain the knowledge, skills, technology skills, and instructional strategies needed to improve the instructional practices of coached teachers.
• Stay knowledgeable about current and past research in relevant content areas and pedagogies related to coaching.
• Identify school teaching and learning needs, barriers, and weaknesses by analyzing student data, and organize and implement problem-solving actions.
• Monitor instructional effectiveness and student progress using tools and strategies gained through professional development.
• Collaborate with ACCEL Shared Services teams and the Regional Vice President to align goals and strategies for each school.
• Assist with collaborative development of district-wide diagnostic and benchmark assessments.
• Provide continuous, targeted professional development for Directors of Academics that supports school curriculum and instruction and student achievement of academic standards.
• Provide job-embedded professional development and coaching for Directors of Academics, teachers, staff, and administrators.
• Support principals and school staff in data analysis and professional-development decision-making.
• Guide Directors of Academics in improving content knowledge and effective coaching delivery.
• Provide daily on-site support to schools according to an assigned schedule.
• Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
