About The Position

The Regional Controller — Singer Mid-Atlantic will serve as the senior finance and accounting leader for Singer EVI and Singer MD. This individual will be responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the financial books and records for both divisions, including monthly close, financial reporting, budgets, forecasts, reconciliations, internal controls, and operational financial analysis. This role will manage the finance and accounting teams at both divisions and will serve as a strategic financial partner to the Divisional Presidents, regional leadership, and broader organizational leadership. The Regional Controller will also be a key member of Singer’s Contract Finance team, working closely with the other Regional Controllers to drive consistency, accountability, process improvement, and financial discipline across the contract business. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring strong technical accounting knowledge, sound business judgment, the ability to lead teams across multiple locations, and the communication skills necessary to influence operational decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong accounting and financial reporting background, with experience leading month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Prior experience managing finance and accounting staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with operational leadership and communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and business drivers.
  • High degree of accuracy, professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, teams, and locations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to travel between the Glenelg, MD and Belcamp, MD offices on a regular basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a construction, project-based, contract, or job cost accounting environment.
  • Knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition, percentage-of-completion accounting, over/under billings, and cost-to-complete analysis.
  • Experience overseeing finance and accounting functions for multiple divisions, branches, or operating locations.
  • Experience with Sage 100 Contractor.
  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience supporting ERP transitions, process improvements, system implementations, or acquisition integrations.
  • Strong understanding of working capital management, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, deposits, retainage, and billing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Own the books and records for Singer EVI and Singer MD, ensuring financial results are accurate, complete, and prepared in accordance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
  • Lead the monthly close process for both divisions, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations, revenue recognition, job cost activity, accruals, reserves, and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of monthly financial results, including income statement, balance sheet, backlog, job cost, and other key financial metrics.
  • Prepare and present financial results, trends, risks, and opportunities to divisional leadership and corporate finance leadership.
  • Maintain strong control over balance sheet accounts, reconciliations, intercompany activity, reserves, accruals, and other key financial areas.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process for Singer EVI and Singer MD in partnership with divisional leadership and the VP of Finance — Contract.
  • Support recurring forecasts, reforecasts, and financial projections, with a focus on revenue, gross profit, backlog, cash flow, and operating expenses.
  • Provide meaningful variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior year results.
  • Develop financial insights that help leadership understand business performance, project profitability, margin trends, cost structure, backlog conversion, and operational risks.
  • Partner with Divisional Presidents and operational leaders to identify opportunities to improve profitability, working capital management, process efficiency, and overall financial performance.
  • Oversee project accounting and job cost reporting for contract-related activity.
  • Support revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606, including percentage-of-completion accounting, cost-to-complete estimates, over/under billings, margin analysis, and project-level financial review.
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment for change orders, retainage, stored materials, customer deposits, earned revenue, earned billings, job costs, and backlog.
  • Work closely with operations, project management, and divisional leadership to ensure financial reporting accurately reflects project status and expected performance.
  • Monitor project profitability and partner with leadership to address margin deterioration, cost overruns, billing issues, or other project-related financial risks.
  • Directly manage and develop the finance and accounting teams at both Singer EVI and Singer MD.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, training, and accountability to ensure the team operates with accuracy, consistency, professionalism, and a strong service mindset.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, deadlines, and expectations across the finance function.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, ownership, and strong internal customer service.
  • Support succession planning, talent development, and process standardization across the regional finance team.
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the Divisional Presidents and their leadership teams.
  • Translate financial results into clear business insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Support strategic decision-making related to pricing, project performance, working capital, staffing, operating expenses, capital investments, and growth initiatives.
  • Partner with the VP of Finance — Contract and other Regional Controllers to improve financial processes, reporting consistency, internal controls, and best practices across the contract business.
  • Participate in regional and company-wide finance initiatives, including process improvement, ERP utilization, system enhancements, reporting improvements, and integration activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, approval authority, and reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, improve close efficiency, standardize reconciliations, and enhance reporting accuracy.
  • Support internal and external audit requests, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and explanations.
  • Drive process improvements across accounting, job cost, billing, collections, payables, payroll-related processes, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure the divisions maintain accurate, supportable, and audit-ready financial records.
