About The Position

The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) Office of Construction is recruiting for a Regional Construction Engineer (Transportation Engineer Manager II) in Anne Arundel County. This position serves as a Regional Construction Engineer (RCE) in the Office of Construction (OOC). The main purpose of this position is to perform as a fully proficient RCE representing the Administrator, Deputy Administrator/Chief Engineer for Operations and Director, OOC in the management of the Highway Construction Program. This position has the responsibility to assure quality and uniform construction projects statewide through the use of Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) methods. As the senior field engineer for OOC, this position has the responsibility of ensuring specification compliance on construction projects and compliance with federally mandated programs and requirements. The RCE performs this duty beginning with the planning phase through the design phase and throughout construction for each project. This position is the primary source for continued proficiency in construction by maintaining a working knowledge of state-of-the-art construction practices, alternative methods of construction and implementation of these practices through the field inspection staffs. Current program increases in conjunction with reduction in staffing and overall reduced lack of construction experience has created a greater demand for direct project involvement and interaction with field staff for RCE’s. This has increased the amount of time spent on projects and with field staff.
