About The Position

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a proactive safety professional to lead project safety initiatives across Region Three. Based in Orem, this role is dedicated to establishing a zero-injury safety culture across all UDOT construction projects, protecting contractors, field crews, and oversight personnel. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience) + 10 years of general industry or construction safety experience.
  • Active CSP, CIH, or equivalent designation + current OSHA 500 and 510 certifications.
  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience) + 7 years of general industry or construction safety experience.
  • Active ASP designation (or equivalent) + current OSHA 500 and 510 certifications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 4 years of general industry or construction safety experience.
  • OHST, CHST, or equivalent designation.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 500/510 within 12 months, along with Traffic Control Technician and Flagger certifications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 2 years of construction safety experience.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain OSHA 500/510, ATSSA Flagger, and Traffic Control Technician certifications across all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Foster an active "safety-first" mindset across all Region Three construction sites.
  • Independently develop, execute, direct, and evaluate safety programs in Region Three under minimal guidance from the central Safety Division.
  • Partner with the UDOT Employee Safety and Construction Divisions to create, update, and implement robust safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Work closely with the Region Employee Safety Manager, Region Trainer, and Central Safety/Construction divisions to drive continuous process improvements.
  • Conduct regular site visits to inspect traffic control setups and construction operations.
  • Work directly with Region Resident Engineers to identify and resolve field safety issues immediately.
  • Analyze, summarize, and report safety data, presenting findings and strategic recommendations to Region leadership.
  • Actively participate in pre-construction alignment meetings and on-site toolbox safety talks.
