About The Position

The Referral Specialist is a member of the ambulatory care team who supports providers, connects with patients, and helps ensure a seamless, compassionate experience. The role manages and navigates the centralized referral process and coordinates and monitors discharge planning to provide cost-effective care and quality outcomes in accordance with members’ benefit coverage guidelines. The specialist also participates in education and utilization management activities.

The position is based at the Park Ridge location and works Monday through Friday on a rotating schedule of 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Requirements

• Associate degree or equivalent.
• 3–4 years of experience in a managed care organization, hospital, or physician’s office.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions and handle stress and high workload volumes.
• Flexibility with work assignments.
• Ability to communicate denial of services to members and providers.
• Ability and willingness to be cross-trained in all referral specialist activities.

Nice To Haves

• Medical referral experience is preferred.
