About The Position

The Referral Specialist in the Centralized Referral Center manages referrals from primary care and other St. Luke’s Medical Group physicians to specialists. The role includes contacting patients, scheduling appointments with specialist offices, and coordinating insurance authorizations. The specialist follows up to help ensure patients are scheduled within St. Luke’s; responds to inbound calls and makes outbound calls as requested; handles online appointment requests and requests for scheduling assistance; schedules same-day appointments when appropriate; and provides information about hospital services as needed. The specialist communicates effectively with patients by phone, text, in person, or email; accurately documents and logs information in databases; performs duties in a manner consistent with the organization’s mission and values; and maintains confidentiality by not discussing patients’ diagnoses or other medical information. Responsible for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Performs all duties in a manner consistent with St. Luke’s mission and values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two to three years of experience in a health care setting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college coursework and/or Certified Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Call center or similar customer service experience preferred.
