About The Position

The Referral Coordinator processes and follows up on referrals and procedure orders generated by providers, communicates with patients, and initiates authorizations for patient services. The role requires knowledge of insurance coverage, documentation of authorizations, and communicating authorization status to practice staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience in healthcare or a medical office.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to organize work, make assignments, and achieve goals and objectives.
• Ability to prioritize work.
• Confidence and skill using computers and related software applications.
• Ability to make recommendations and handle complaints and requests professionally and calmly.
• Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Process incoming and outgoing referrals and orders in a timely manner.
• Document phone calls, messages, and interactions with patients and insurance companies in the patient chart or applicable order systems.
• Obtain prior authorizations for appointments and procedures.
• Update patient demographics in the practice management system.
• Verify health insurance eligibility and understand applicable copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
• Explain financial requirements to patients or responsible parties and collect applicable patient financial portions.
• Operate a variety of office equipment effectively.
• Work closely with Baptist Medical Group representatives, medical facilities, insurance companies, patients, and family members.
