About The Position

The Referral Coordinator serves as the key liaison between patients and the outside services recommended by their providers, including a wide range of specialty care. By coordinating the referral process, our Referral Coordinators ensure that patients receive the information and support they need to schedule appointments and access essential services. The Referral Coordinator provides administrative and coordination support to our medical, dental, and behavioral health teams. Responsibilities include communicating with patients and outside partners (via fax, phone, and computer), processing and tracking referrals, verifying insurance coverage, gathering required information, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of clerical, reception, administrative, or secretarial experience in a medical/dental setting, healthcare insurance organization, or high-volume office environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA and privacy laws
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Customer service and workplace safety knowledge
  • Ability and willingness to work in a dynamic, changing community healthcare environment
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks with competing deadlines
  • Ability to meet team and organizational goals with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Post-high school education in administrative or office/clerical coursework
  • Experience in a clinic (family practice or pediatrics), hospital, or pharmacy setting
  • Experience working with low-income or multi-ethnic populations
  • Experience with EPIC EMR
