About The Position

Transport Refrigeration, Inc. (TRI), a Thermo King dealership, is hiring a Reefer Technician / Trailer Technician at its De Pere, Wisconsin location. This dual-role position focuses primarily on diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing transport refrigeration units, APUs, diesel heaters, and truck cab air-conditioning systems. When refrigeration work is slower, the technician also helps maintain and repair semi-trailers. The role includes preventative maintenance, troubleshooting diesel engines and refrigeration systems, electrical testing and repairs, HVAC service, road service calls, and accurate completion of work orders. The technician uses OEM diagnostic software, test equipment, shop tools, hoists, and other service equipment, while following repair procedures and maintaining quality and safety. Participation in an on-call rotation and overtime may be required. TRI offers paid training and manufacturer-supported learning, with opportunities to pursue Thermo King Certi-Tech and EPA refrigerant certifications. The position has a weekday, first-shift schedule and is suited to experienced reefer, diesel, trailer, or heavy-duty technicians, including those with transferable mechanical and diagnostic skills.

Requirements

Professional experience as a Reefer Technician, Diesel Technician, Diesel Mechanic, Trailer Technician, or Heavy-Duty Technician is preferred.
Strong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic troubleshooting skills.
Experience with diesel engines, refrigeration, HVAC, APUs, trailers, or heavy-duty equipment.
High school diploma/GED or equivalent technical experience.
Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
Ability to obtain and maintain required tools, including a toolbox and appropriate hand and specialty tools.
Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
Dependable, professional, and safety-focused work habits.
Ability to work overtime when needed.
Willingness to learn new systems, attend training, and earn industry certifications.
Ability to lift and move equipment and parts weighing 50 pounds or more.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, and climb around trucks and trailers.
Willingness to travel.

Nice To Haves

Transport refrigeration experience is preferred.
Experience as an experienced diesel or heavy-duty technician with transferable skills is encouraged.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, repair, and maintain Thermo King and other transport refrigeration units.
Perform preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs.
Troubleshoot diesel engines, refrigeration systems, electrical components, and controls.
Service and repair APUs, diesel-fired heaters, and auxiliary power systems.
Diagnose and repair truck cab air-conditioning and HVAC systems.
Perform electrical troubleshooting, testing, and component replacement.
Use OEM diagnostic software, test equipment, shop tools, hoists, and other service equipment.
Complete accurate service documentation and work orders.
Meet standard repair times while maintaining quality and safety.
Participate in road service calls and an on-call rotation as required after training.
Inspect trailers and perform preventative maintenance.
Diagnose and repair trailer brakes, lighting, and electrical systems.
Repair trailer doors, floors, and other components.
Assist with structural repairs, welding, and fabrication as needed.
Help maintain safe, clean, and organized shop operations.
Follow repair procedures and complete required service documentation.
