About The Position

The Recycling Specialist, under the direction of the Site Manager, performs physical tasks such as collecting, sorting, and disposing of recycling materials. This role also involves the assembly and minor repair of outdoor items at the Recycling Collection Center (RCC), including building trash cans, benches, and picnic tables, and repairing hut siding, handles, plastic rain guards, and tool handles. The specialist will regularly operate forklifts, a baler, and pallet jacks.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • At least three (3) years of relevant experience in material handling or a related discipline is required.
  • Power Industrial Certification (Forklift) and OSHA safety training.
  • MHE Safety Operations Certification pursuant to OSHA training requirements in 29 CFR 1910.178.
  • Must have general working knowledge of basic repairs and carpentry.
  • Familiarity with basic mathematical functions is required.
  • Good working knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Mature judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to pass a pre-hire background and drug screen.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required Intelligence Community Security Screening.
  • Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess the required Intelligence Community Security Screening.
  • Experience in a Recycling, Waste Management, Facilities Management, Construction, and/or Maintenance environment.
  • Trade certifications in mechanical, electrical, plumbing and/or carpentry.
  • Competency in Excel, Word and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, equipment, components, and systems that support the facility.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.
  • Plan, organize work, and meet all deadlines.
  • Able to do a variety of tasks in any single day.
  • Coordinates with other personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
  • Respond to emergency work orders as required.
  • Perform on call duties as necessary.
  • Help perform periodic stock inventories and prepare material requisitions for replacement items as required.
  • May occasionally be required to operate Government or Chugach owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment.
  • Will be required to perform various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain space and telephone answering as required.
  • Supports and assists other department staff and groups as needed or directed.
  • Adheres to the established Chugach safety, personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
