About The Position

The Recycling Sorter is responsible for sorting recyclable materials and removing unacceptable materials from the recycling stream to ensure that the finished product meets industry specifications.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Experience in a similar industry, preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Read/write simple instruction, simple business reports, or memos.
  • Communicate clearly with coworkers, vendors, customers, and management team.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend and twist from the waist and knees; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch and talk or hear.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, unload, drag and carry from 10 to 50 pounds of paper, cardboard, and other recycling.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
  • Ensure proper personal protective equipment is utilized (ear plugs, glasses, gloves, dust mask, high visual safety clothing, etc.), as well as compliance with lock out, tag out procedures are adhered to consistently.
  • Inspect materials and sort items into designated areas according to type, size, condition, color, or paper grade.
  • Remove contaminants out of product stream or off of floor.
  • Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping.
  • Report system problems immediately to management.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and surrounding area.
  • Dump boxes and containers of material into designated area(s).
  • Maintain an excellent attendance, safety, and work quality record.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Operations Assistant.
