About The Position

Recyclers pick up, process, and organize recyclable materials, including large cardboard items, plastic, scrap, refuse, and wooden shipping pallets. Materials may be processed using the client’s balers; employees receive training on baler safety protocols and bale distribution. Employees are responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and healthy work environment, communicating professionally with clients, teammates, and contractors, and working in assigned areas that may change according to client needs. The role also involves safely transporting, loading, and unloading recyclable goods and complying with ABM and client safety, security, compliance, and other established procedures. Employees perform physical recycling and cleaning tasks in designated areas. Duties may include removing recyclables from trash, cutting and breaking down cardboard for baling, organizing and evaluating pallets, and cleaning and sanitizing work areas and equipment. Employees must secure the necessary tools at the start of their shift and arrive prepared with assigned personal protective equipment and weather-appropriate attire. Tasks and assigned areas may change during employment.

Requirements

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety standards.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Regularly walk, stand, climb, bend forward, and kneel during the assigned shift.
Ability to lift, carry, push or pull, and transport more than 10 pounds for at least 75% of the shift.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, or general cleaning roles is a plus.

Responsibilities

Communicate professionally with clients, teammates, and other contractors.
Work in assigned areas, which may change according to client needs, and operate balers when assigned.
Safely transport, load, and unload recyclable goods.
Follow ABM and client safety, security, compliance, and other established procedures.
Secure the tools needed to perform assigned tasks at the beginning of the shift.
Keep work equipment clean and sanitized before, during, and after the shift.
Remove recyclables from trash or plastic and transport them to the proper disposal area, including using a baler.
Cut and break down cardboard items into gaylords and deliver them to the baler or other assigned areas.
Lift or use pallet jacks to organize wooden pallets in the proper areas and evaluate their condition for possible resale.
Perform cleaning and upkeep tasks as assigned, including cleaning, sanitizing, sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
Come prepared with assigned personal protective equipment and weather-appropriate attire.
