About The Position

The Recruiter and Student Development Specialist supports the recruitment and student success efforts for students aligned with community engagement at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The Recruiter and Student Development Specialist will collaborate with the existing student success offices at UA Little Rock to help ensure students receive appropriate support. This position is housed in the UA Little Rock Office of Admissions & Recruitment and works in collaboration with the Student Experience Center. The position reports to the Undergraduate Recruitment Manager. This is a 12-month grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of annual grant funding.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • At least two (2) years of work experience
  • Experience working within an education setting
  • Knowledge of student organization advising
  • Ability to work with data files while interfacing with a central backbone administrative system
  • Ability to read maps and give directions
  • Knowledge of internet and conventional office technology tools (These tools include e-mail, internet search engines, and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access)
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and documents that have been concurrently assigned
  • Ability to maintain cohesive working files and documentation of project tasks
  • Ability to self-initiate project tasks after accepting an assignment under general supervision
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and hold a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel in and out of state, including overnight stays
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Superior communication skills in English and Spanish, oral and written, are preferred, especially when responding to non-technical users of campus data
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills in English and Spanish
  • Ability to create short reports or narratives that may be required to explain data results or the significance of the data applied to the original statement of the problem

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining relationships with high school counselors and community college representatives
  • Visiting high schools and community colleges to recruit students, working at college fairs, and presenting at college-day events
  • Communicating with prospective students about important dates and deadlines, missing credentials, and information regarding the enrollment process through means of email, phone calls or text messages, social media, and in-person meetings
  • Planning and participating in on- and off-campus recruiting events
  • Creating and developing partnerships within the community
  • Assisting with the development of recruitment strategies and projects
  • Collaborating with other campus departments and offices regarding recruitment activities
  • Reporting and tracking recruiting activities
  • Recruiting statewide with an emphasis on communities where bilingualism will be an asset
  • Providing and assisting prospective students and visitors with the UA Little Rock application process for admission, financial aid, and the BOSS student database system
  • Providing students and visitors with information about UA Little Rock, admissions requirements, and undergraduate programs of study
  • Providing campus tours to prospective students and their families
  • Performing data entry and reviewing admission documents such as high school transcripts, college transcripts, test scores (ACT, SAT, Accuplacer), immunization records, letters of good standing, letters of non-attendance, permission letters from parents and school officials, etc. to uphold the University’s admission standards
  • Determining admissibility to the University and rendering an admission decision
  • Utilizing websites to ensure accreditation of colleges attended by transfer applicants and to verify enrollment at previous institutions
  • Providing assistance and oversight to the student activities board
  • Collaborating and supporting students’ holistic development and persistence
  • Supporting student transition programming such as new student orientation, peer mentoring, and first-year initiatives and junior level-programming
  • Serving as a member of the Care Team
  • Tracking student engagement and maintaining confidential data for assessment purposes
  • Other duties as assigned
