About The Position

This position supports the work of Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Recreational Gymnastics Coach provides safe, fun, and engaging gymnastics instruction for children of all ages and skill levels. Coaches help athletes build confidence, develop skills, and enjoy sport in a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • CPR, First Aid, AED and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
  • Maintaining required YMCA safety and program certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Teach recreational gymnastics classes following the gym curriculum.
  • Instruct athletes on all gymnastics events using age-appropriate progressions.
  • Create a positive, safe, and encouraging class environment.
  • Manage classes effectively using positive reinforcement and good sportsmanship.
  • Complete skill evaluations and communicate athlete progress to the Gym Manager.
  • Follow all gym safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure equipment is used safely and appropriately.
  • Teach gym safety to new athletes.
  • Respond to injuries and emergencies according to YMCA policies.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all classes.
  • Wear the required coaching attire.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, evaluations, and time records.
  • Always supervise athletes.
  • Build positive relationships with athletes, parents, and staff.
  • Communicate regularly with the Gym Manager.
  • Arrange a qualified substitute when needed.
  • Assist with training new coaches as requested.
  • Help keep the gym clean, organized, and welcoming.
